This course introduces participants to soft-cover book binding by creating a series of miniature books. Through this hands-on experience, participants will learn several basic bookbinding techniques that can be applied to larger books in the future. Students will learn to create two or three different book styles, resulting in impressive one-of-a-kind books. Participants will add personal touches with photos, drawings, lettering or paper collages. This course has a materials fee. Note: This course begins at 10:00 am.

Sherlock Holmes is the most famous fictional detective. Who doesn't know "Elementary, my dear Watson!", and that Holmes never said it? What was the relation between Sherlock and real-life author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? We will explore the biographies of both "characters" in this course and the lasting impact of the Sherlock stories on our culture. The last class will be a PBS video of a Holmes mystery with Jeremy Brett.

Which one is the best fit for you? Join Cindy Dykman for an overview of river cruising, covering the major brands, ships, cabins, excursions, itineraries, payment policies, and more. Cindy has sailed the rivers herself and holds specialist certifications with AmaWaterways and Tauck River Cruises, along with specializations in other river cruise ship brands. She's attended the ASTA River Cruise Expo twice where she has toured all the brands ships. She'll also introduce some of the newer brands, exotic itineraries, and cultural immersion trips travelers may not have heard of yet.
By the end of this course, participants will understand the importance of matching the right river cruise to their travel style. Not every river cruise is for everyone. NOTE: Cindy will teach the first two sessions in person. The final session, Oct. 22, will be held via Zoom.

A Pulitzer Prize Finalist, these are tales of ecstasy, epiphany, and what the New York Times magazine called the “struggle for survival” by “one of the finest prose stylists in American fiction.” The book is available in multiple formats: e-book, paperback, hardcover and audiobook. I will email participants with the titles of the stories which we will discuss in the first class.

A follow-up to my Spring Course, this is a continuing exploration of the power of cinema to enrich our lives. The Fall Session will carefully examine 6 more powerful films in detail. This course’s films will examine the American family in various forms and periods. Note: This course runs for two hours.

Tea Party Treats is a relaxed, hands-on series where we spend time together making the favorites of a traditional afternoon tea. Over the course of the classes, we will make 2 types of scones, chocolate ganache tarts, cucumber tea sandwiches, and tarragon chicken salad sandwiches. Along the way, we will enjoy tastings and try a variety of teas. At the end of the course, we will sit down together and enjoy an afternoon tea with everything we have made over the past few weeks. You will go home with the recipes so you can make them again for your friends and family. This course has a materials fee.
