AI dates its medical endeavors to the 1960s, and now figures prominently in all facets of healthcare, from telemedicine to self-diagnosis. This three-week course will begin with a review of the foundations of currently used AI platforms in medicine. Participants will appreciate the knowledge base of chatbots used by doctors and patients. Doctors make diagnoses based on complaints, observations, and data. “Bots” only have the information provided by the patient and the questions asked. In addition, medical “Bots” may ask for the input of a patient’s protected health information. During weeks two and three of this course, learners will actively participate in generating fictitious medical questions for Chat GPT, Claude, and Copilot.

Ever get tired of your friends telling you what the government should do and why? Somehow, they have all the answers that only they can see with such clarity. Well…in this course we are going to dive into the gray and muddy areas of government policy and specifically how it relates to money and the economy. We will have moderated discussions on topics that influence our points of view. This will be an exciting series of conversations in an open, but moderated, respectful environment.

Whether it’s a full-on malware attack or a phishing scam that has caught you off guard, the result is often the same. In this course we will bring to light the most recent scams that are being perpetrated against people to access their money. Part 1 (of 2) will focus on the methods that scammers use to separate us from our money and how we can recognize, avoid, and prevent these scams. Part 2 will focus on the tools we use in everyday life and how to feel safer using technology. These parts can be taken separately.

We will dive deeply into email security, payment services, and our phones to better understand how to use them. This technology is often the genesis of many scams, but we also have to continue using them. Join us as we explore them in a safe environment and understand their uses and purposes. These parts can be taken separately.

Florida has a long and interesting history, known for its explorers, entrepreneurs, engineers, and even a few famous animals. The story of our state can be seen in a variety of scenes, from fortresses to state parks, and even some abandoned structures and projects. This course will explore some of the natural and man-made highlights that have marked the years and the progress of Florida. We will take a look at places, characters, and scenery that make our state unique.

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is one of North America’s last great wilderness landscapes and, as of 2026, a recommended UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its Outstanding Universal Value alongside iconic places such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Yosemite. This three-section course explores the remarkable natural and cultural story of this internationally significant wetland, which spans southern Georgia and northern Florida. Participants will discover how the Okefenokee was formed through fascinating geological processes and why its extraordinary biodiversity earned global recognition. The course also examines the swamp’s rich human history, from indigenous peoples to European settlement, its role as a refuge for freedom seekers escaping slavery, conservation efforts, and its influence on American literature, art, and popular culture. Guidance will be offered on planning visits, from easy day excursions to unforgettable multi-day paddling adventures beneath some of the darkest skies in the eastern US. Participants will also learn how the successful UNESCO nomination was achieved after decades of effort and what this designation means for the refuge’s future.
