This course is a combination of lecture/discussion and hands-on studio work.
Perhaps the most remarkable phenomenon of twentieth-century art is Pablo Ruiz y Picasso. The Spanish-born artist created and/or participated in most of the art movements to emerge in western art since the end of the 19th century. This course offers participants an overview of Picasso’s contributions to twentieth-century art through a look at examples of his work and the iterations of his style, famously referred to as “Cubism.” Our survey culminates with a look at Picasso’s large-scale and colorful 1921 synthetic cubist painting, “Three Musicians.” This is sure to enlighten your own creative process as you engage in a guided hands-on Papier Collé (collage) artwork inspired by Picasso’s work. This course has a materials fee. Note: This course begins at 10:00am.
